The What and Why of Everyday

Written By: Amy James, Founder and CEO

Hi All!

We’ve had some questions since moving into our sweet brick and mortar design house at the corner of Hillsboro and Kansas in Edwardsville.  Questions about who we are, or rather what we are.  Of course, we answered with the immediate and short response, yes, we are your local flower shop and event planners and florists.  To be honest those questions along with my quick reflex answers prompted some reflection for me to be able to articulate the answers in a more descriptive and meaningful way.

First, what we are not, is a traditional florist.  We’re so much more than that.

With that, let me introduce you to Petaled Pail & Co. Everyday.  Some of you are already familiar with Petaled Pail & Co Design House as your go to florist for milestones, holidays, weddings and events.   When we moved into our new storefront we were so excited to create the space to bring the Everyday side of our business to our original flower loving friends, and also to welcome our new supporters visiting us off the street (literally).

Perhaps if you were already familiar with us, you haven’t noticed our addition of Everyday.  Also, if you’ve recently found us, you may be a bit confused about us - who we are, how we can serve you, and our mission.   It’s a lot, I know.  Which may have you wondering how do we balance it all to provide an exceptional experience for all of our clients and customers.

We Celebrate, long story short.

Both sides of our business are a culmination of our lives, cohabitating and intermittently crossing paths through daily celebrations, family gatherings, self care, girls nights, get well soons, milestone events, holidays, as small as birthday flowers and as large as wedding days and corporate events.

How did we get here?

I suppose I owe it to my roots.  Turbulent is generally how I best describe my childhood and adolescence at home.  While I was loved, our home was not always a safe space and fear, along with uncertainty and insecurity often overshadowed gratitude and celebration at home.  While it wasn’t obvious then, as an adult looking back, much of my childhood was spent in some form of survival mode.

I am who I am today as a result of my childhood, not in spite of it.   It is part of my story and a bigger part of how I would live my adult life, raise my family, work at my marriage and prioritize celebrating Everyday.  I made the decision very early on that my adult life and the home that I would build would look very different from the one I was raised in and that I would fill it with warmth, love, happiness, safety, and yes  -celebration.

And so it began.

Through my years, I worked to build a nest for our little family piece by piece, always making an effort to celebrate the small details of  every day.  Along the way learning to use what my experiences had shown me I didn’t want in our life and more that I was providing a secure environment, where we have something to be celebrated every day.  Especially in the failures and difficult days that we all experience.

Not in the let’s have a party kind of way (although that did happen frequently),  in a sweet hand written note of encouragement, fresh flowers for a friend, family game night, picnic on a blanket, nerf war after dinner, outside movie night, I’m proud of you and I love you no matter what kind of way.  Every single day.  Embracing the A+’s and the F’s(failures) altogether because, well, now we know what doesn’t work and that’s progress. It just became what we did.

And here we are, sharing it with you.

That’s the mission of PP&Co. Everyday, to help you celebrate the simple and the big.  All of the things.

We hope you’ll stop in for a visit, treat yourself to fresh flowers, or brighten someone else’s day with them.  Enjoy the PP&Co. Experience, which we hope is a different one each time we see you and more delightful than the last.    We’re here to help you gather your friends and family to celebrate a milestone, or to make a pretty table for a dinner, help coordinate surprises, flower bars, themes, showers  and all of the parties.  Let us help you find the balance in the joy of doing what makes you happy and sharing simple pleasures with those most important to you.

Afterall, we are all realizing now, more than ever, that Celebration is a Luxury that we have Today. A luxury we may not have tomorrow.   Let’s not waste it or take it for granted.

That is the core of our mission and we are always a safe space.

We hope to see you soon!

XO,

Amy
